Overview

There are two Social Security disability programs - Social Security Disabiltiy Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). It is very important to understand the difference. Non-medical criteria is different for both. SSDI requires you have Social Security work credits. SSI requires you meet certain criteria - the most imporant is very low income and financial resources. Disability criteria is the same for both. SSI disability criteria for children is different than it is for SSDI and SSI adults. Adult benefits are different for both.
